Introduction to Lactobacillus plantarum in milk (CRM-LP)

The Certified Reference Material Lactobacillus plantarum (CRM-LP) in milk matrix contains NCCB 100293. Lactobacillus plantarum can be used as first line control of microbiological analysis for the detection and enumeration of lactobacilli and mesophilic lactic acid bacteria, validation studies, media control and learning purposes.

Lactobacillus plantarum is a gram-positive-aerotolerant bacterium that has does not need Oxygen to grow. This rod-shaped bacterium can be found in many fermented products such as yoghurt, sauerkraut, pickles.

CRM-LP can be used for different methods, for example:

NEN 6815   Milk and milk products – Detection of the content of lactobacilli

ISO 15214  Microbiology of food and animal feeding stuffs – Horizontal method for the enumeration of mesophilic lactic acid bacteria – Colony-count technique at 30°C

ISO 11133   Microbiology of food, animal feed and water - Preparation, production, storage and performance testing of culture media

NEN 6603   Environment and food – Internal quality control by the use of control charts with chemical and microbiological analyses

Results from the detection method (present or absent) as well as the results of counts on agar plates can be plotted in the BiosistoChart according to NEN 6603.
