Introduction to Listeria monocytogenes (CRM-LM)

The Certified Reference Material Listeria monocytogenes (CRM-LM) contains Listeria monocytogenes NCCB 100286 and can be used for validation studies, learning purposes, media control and first line control of microbiological analysis.

Listeria monocytogenesis a pathogenic bacterium that belongs to the genus Listeria. Listeria monocytogenesis a Gram-positive, motile, rod-shaped bacterium that has a facultative anaerobic metabolism. Listeria monocytogenesare responsible for the infection listeriosis and is known to sicken people with a weakened immune system.

CRM-LM can be used for different methods, for example:

ISO 11290   Microbiology of food and animal feeding stuffs — Horizontal method for the detection and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes

ISO 11133   Microbiology of food, animal feed and water - Preparation, production, storage and performance testing of culture media

NEN 6603    Environment and food – Internal quality control by the use of control charts with chemical and microbiological analyses

Results from the detection method (present or absent) as well as the results of counts on agar plates can be plotted in the BiosistoChart according to NEN 6603.

Regulation 2073/2005 lays down microbiological criteria for various combinations of food commodities and microorganisms, their toxins or metabolites. The Regulation differentiates microbiological criteria into Process hygiene and Food safety criteria. The Food safety criteria is applicable to Listeria monocytogenes.
