Introduction to Salmonella Enteritidis in milk (CRM-SE)

The Certified Reference Material Salmonella Enteritidis (CRM-SE) in milk matrix contains NCCB 100284 Salmonella enterica subspenterica serotype enteritidis can be used as first line control of microbial analysis for the detection of Salmonella, validation studies, media control and learning purposes.

Salmonella Enteritidis is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped and facultative anaerobic bacterium. This bacterium is commonly found in the environment and in warm-blooded organisms and can cause egg-associated salmonellosis infection.

CRM-SE can be used for different methods, for example:

ISO 6579     Microbiology of the food chain - Horizontal method for the detection, enumeration and serotyping of Salmonellaspp.

ISO 11133   Microbiology of food, animal feed and water - Preparation, production, storage and performance testing of culture media

NEN 6603    Environment and food – Internal quality control by the use of control charts with chemical and microbiological analyses

Results from the detection method (present or absent) as well as the results of counts op Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate agar (XLD) can be plotted in the BiosistoChart according to NEN 6603.

Regulation 2073/2005 lays down microbiological criteria for various combinations of food commodities and microorganisms, their toxins or metabolites. The Regulation differentiates microbiological criteria into Process hygiene and Food safety criteria. Both criteria are applicable to Salmonella species.
